2026 Boys Track/Field Season Preview

Head Coach: Chris Radtke

Players to watch: Luke McGovern enters his junior year as the reigning Suburban League MVP. He was a State Qualifier in the 4 x 100 m Relay (5th place finish at the State Championships) and the 200m dash (12th place)- Nathan Eminian is a senior who placed 7th this fall in the State Cross Country Championships. “Beast” is prepared for an epic senior season on the track in the distance races– Seniors Luke Geyer and Quincy John qualified for State in the 4 x 100m Relay placing 5th and look to improve upon that this season while building on their success in their individual sprint events.

Season outlook: The Greenmen are eager to build on last year’s Suburban League Championship. While we graduated key senior sprinters, we return strong depth in the sprint group, promising talent in the distance events, and several experienced letter winners in the jumps and throws. Last season provided valuable experience that should serve us well moving forward.

Players to watch: Clee Thompson, Sophomore (Hurdles, Sprints)– Spartacus Petrie, Senior (400m, 4×400)– Brandon Hall, Senior (Sprints, Relays)

Season outlook: We are looking forward to a year of significant growth for the boys track program. This season is anchored by an incredible group of seniors; in my nine years coaching at Barberton, this is the largest senior class we’ve ever had. Athletes to Watch: The Sprints & Hurdles: All eyes are on Clee Thompson, the reigning Suburban League 300m hurdle champion and a District/Regional finalist along with a strong 100m. He is joined by senior Brandon Hall, a former soccer standout who has made massive strides in the 100m, and sophomore Davion Ingol, a rising talent in the 200m. In the 400m, senior Spartacus Petrie and sophomore Noah Wright are poised to make their mark. Field Events: Three-year letter winner Terrean Bailey looks to continue his upward trajectory in the long jump. The Throws: Seniors Jamar McCray and Tyler Forestall return to build on last year’s success, bolstered by promising newcomer Ricco Varner.

Players to watch: Ethan Johnson, soph. distance.– Isaiah Lutz, jr, sprinter– Kyle Miller, jr. distance

Season outlook: We are returning much of our team from last season and still remain very young. We are excited to see the growth from last season to this season.

Players to watch: Christopher Metzger – 12– Jacob Oblander – 9– Vincent Mancuso

Season outlook: We have a very young team this year, especially in the distance races and pole vault. We have several returning letter-winners in the sprints and throws. Overall, we look to improve each week and build towards a successful league meet.

Players to watch: Will Wells (Sr. Distance)– Harrison Drvenkar (Sr. Jumps & Sprints)– Zack Stupczy (Jumps, Pole Vault, & Hurdles)

Season outlook: After finishing as runner-up last season, the Minutemen led by Wells, Drvenkar, Stupczy look to chase the league title. A strong distance and field events team look to be ready for all the action this season.

Players to watch: Braylon Hawthorne, Senior, Mile/800– Kyle Mcqueen, Senior, 300/110m hurdles– Max Froman, Junior, Shot/Disc

Season outlook: Our goal, as always, is to imrove our overall team standing within the conference. We have a lot of returning talent and experience from last season, and look forward to seeing the preformances the guys are able to put on the track this year.

Players to watch: Jacob Eterovich senior sprinter– Kyle Brown senior distance runner– Jeremias Bonitez-Polanco jumper sprinter

Season outlook: We have some very good sprinters coming back. The loss of senior Patrick Murphy, who had been the anchor leg for all of our relays due to a knee injury in football. But we haven’t got amount of depth in the Sprint hopefully be strong in that area again in the relays. We also have a chance to do well in the throwing events.

Season outlook: Looking to repeat as a top 3 team in the league. Win districts and get multiple relays and boys to the state championship this year!

Players to watch: Clark Defendorf (Senior, 100m/200m)– Nicholas Piazza (Senior, 100m/200m, long jump)– Jack Sinclair (Senior, 800m/1600m)

Season outlook: Excited about a strong senior group and several newcomers who are capable of cracking the varsity lineups.

Players to watch: Bryan Shin (Senior; thrower)– Cole Taylor (Senior; hurdler, jumper)– Matthew Scipione (Junior; distance)

Season outlook: This season we expect to be a competitive team in the Suburban. We will rely on Bryan, Cole, Matthew, and a group of juniors and seniors to put us in a position to win the conference this season.

Players to watch: Tristian Roach – Distance– Trevor Richards – Sprints– Trevor Ing – Distance

Season outlook: Our team looks to develop our young sprint group this season with a couple of surprise additions as well as leverage the fall XC success of our distance group to compete well throughout the Suburban League season.

Players to watch: Sam Hopp, senior, middle distance– Sam Taneja, senior, sprints– Dom Rogers, junior, sprints

Season outlook: We return a talented group of athletes that will be bolterd by the development of some of our younger athletes. We look to challenge for the league championship and qualify multiple events to the state meet.

Players to watch: Calix Lemp – Sprints– Cooper Gray – Sprints– Landon Lanham – Distance

Season outlook: We have a solid team returning with a group of athletes who work extremely hard and have excellent attitudes. We have a good mix of excellent seniors and promising underclassmen. We have also added some athletes this season who should have an immediate impact on our team. I anticipate having a competitive team, improving throughout the season, and being a contending team by the end of the season. Our strength will be in the sprints and throws. We will need to continue to develop depth in our distance crew and hurdles to ensure a well-rounded team. We look forward to the challenge of continuing the Wadsworth track program’s outstanding tradition of success.
