Solon to Join Suburban League
Last night, the league issued the following statement:
At the Sept. 6, 2022, Suburban League Athletic Council meeting, Solon High School was overwhelmingly approved as the 16th member of the Suburban League. In continuous existence since 1949, the league operated solely as an eight-team league from 1964 until 2015. At that point, the league opted to expand to sixteen teams, but soon after had one school withdraw – leaving the league at fifteen teams. The league chose to divide the fifteen schools into two conferences – American and National -based primarily on enrollment numbers ; the current configuration is listed below:
American Conference – Aurora, Barberton, Copley, Cuyahoga Falls, Highland, (Kent) Roosevelt, Revere, and Tallmadge
National Conference – Brecksville-Broadview Hts., Hudson, Nordonia, North Royalton, Stow, Twinsburg, and Wadsworth.
Solon will be added to the National Conference roster of schools for league competition. At this time the exact starting date of league competition for Solon will be the beginning of the 2023-24 school year. This is pursuant to the Greater Cleveland Conference releasing Solon from the GCC at their Oct. 4, 2022 meeting.
With schools in four different NE Ohio counties -Summit, Medina, Portage and Cuyahoga- and sponsoring competition in 22 different sports, the league has a long history of athletic excellence across the athletic landscape. The addition of Solon High School, widely recognized for both athletic and academic excellence, is seen as another building block in the league’s commitment to the 3 A’s – “academics, athletics and the arts.”
